This blog will provide information what the e-Residency program of Estonia is and why it could be an exceptional opportunity for you!
It doesn’t matter whether you are a freelancer, a small business owner, or an entrepreneur, for sure if you want to expand or open a business in the baltic area, Estonia and its e-Residency program is the right solution for you!
WHAT IS E-RESIDENCY?
E-Residency is a program that was launched by the Estonian government, which has invested so much into the digital innovation of the state during the last few years; results are clear and impressive: Estonia is considered by many the country with the most digitally advanced society of our time. Many also called Tallinn, the capital, the Silicon Valley of Europe.
The E-Residency card allows you to become a digital Estonian resident, but that doesn’t mean you’ll become an Estonian citizen. As the site of the Estonian government says, e-Residency does not have any effect on your current residency, citizenship, or visas in any country.
So, now you are probably wondering “what can I do with an e-Residency card?“. Being an e-resident in Estonia will make your life easier for sure since you’ll be able to:
- Digitally sign documents
- Verify the authenticity of signed documents
- Encrypt and send documents securely
- Access a wide range of Estonian public and private e-services
- Establish an Estonian company online
- Manage your Estonian company online from anywhere in the world
- Apply for digital business banking and online payment services
- Declare Estonian corporate taxes online (if your company is an Estonian tax resident)
- Join a community of like-minded people
That’s awesome! Don’t you think? But wait…
SO, CAN I OPEN A COMPANY IN ESTONIA FROM MY COUNTRY?
Yes!
With e-Residency you can register your company online, work for it remotely, pay taxes from your devices. But most importantly, you can do all these things from your sofa, at home! You will not need to take a flight to Estonia.
The only reason that would make you come to Estonia is if you want to open an Estonian bank account at a traditional bank.
Getting an e-Residency is very easy. You have to apply online and you have the possibility of making you deliver it to the Estonian embassy of your country. We prepared a how-to-to-apply guide for you and we hope that it will be useful!
HOW MUCH DOES THE ESTONIAN E-RESIDENCY COST?
During the online application process, you must pay a fee of 100 euros by Visa or MasterCard.
Depending on the pickup location that you choose, you may need to pay an added service fee:
- If you choose to pick it up at a Service Point of the Police and Border Guard Board, in Estonia, there is no service fee;
- At the Estonian embassies, the service fee is 20 euro;
- Other amounts of service fees can be applied to other collection centers.
There are no annual fees or maintenance fees for the e-Residency digital ID card.
The card is valid for 5 years and the state fee for replacement or renewal is the same.
